I recited those words so many times as a kid. All of my siblings are at least 5 years older than me so the answer more often than not was no. Not that it never happened. I remember camping in Hamilton ON. in high school and playing a brand new game our campsite neighbors had, my mom bought the game on the way home, it became the favorite game in our house for many years to come. The game was Trivial Pursuit.
Unfortunately when my kids were small, I worked in retail which required horrible hours and there wasn't as much game playing as I would have liked. Looking back I wish we had established a Family Game Night. We played sporadically, Sorry, Battleship (those were my faves), Guess Who, Monopoly, Clue and Life. We even at times ventured into variations on the old favorites, Simpson's Clue made it's way onto our table and Adam has a collection of different Monopoly games.
In their new feature on Family Game Night Time to Play Magazine lists 22 top choices (other than the old standards) with their #1 choice being the other favorite game of my family - Tripoley (better know as Michigan Rummy). We would gather all of us (usually 10 or more) around the kitchen table on Navy or a picnic table at a campsite and play into the wee hours of the morning. No one wanting to go to bed until someone, anyone got the pot for the 8,9,10 and the K&Q of hearts. These marathons would last so long we would start playing with pennies and next thing you know there would be dollar bills involved and sometimes even those with a double digit.
