Are You Worried

Swine Flu or H1N1 or Mexican Flu or Pandemic Flu, whatever you wanna call it, it's here.

I was online with Erika earlier and she got notification of a confirmed case in her area. At the sametime, I saw a confirmed case at the Marine base in San Bernadino. My friend has reservations for a family reunion at a resort in Cancun and her entire family is in limbo over whether they should go or not. The airline will not refund the miles used to purchase the tickets. I told her to just go and stay in the room. She could also use swine flu kits for everyone for the trip to and from on the plane.

For normal everyday care, I would just be sure to keep washing your hands regularly and stay out of places with recycled air as much as possible. If you must use public transportation or travel somewhere then swine flu kits could be a good idea for you as well.

  1. Yeah, I am not really afraid of this thing, but I don't think I would be going to Cancun. Almost every single case has been linked back to Mexico.

Our case here was a student at Notre Dame and he is fine now but they are monitoring everyone he had contact with since he got back from MEXICO. They haven't contacted me so I feel pretty safe.

Luckily, the powers that be have not gone crazy and closed the schools or the university. We are heading into final exams it would be chaos here if they decided to close.

  2. Our university has officially suspended all study abroad programs scheduled for Mexico this summer. They say they will re-evaluate as more information becomes available but they are basically telling people to make other plans.

  3. OK, here I go again. I refuse to take part in a "Chicken Little" scam. How many times do we have to hear about all the world's great flu disasters with the implication "this one could be worse." We have yet to see the call for an investigation of the immunology field, who should have seen this coming and prepared a vaccine for it.

There are many people who have a fright mentality and it is their desire to help others into their derangement.

  4. This flu stuff has been at the top of our local newscasts every day for the past two weeks. I agree with Grandpa that I will not give in to the fright mentality. From a biological perspective, there is no reason to believe one flu is "worse" than another. It's just that because we don't have a vaccine yet, people are more afraid and more susceptible. I have enough faith in our Public Health system that this won't become a deadly epidemic here in the good ol' US of A.

Until this "scare" is over, I guess I'll just stick to what I always do: don't swap spit with strangers, wash my hands, and keep good manners/hygiene.
