A great deal of well deserved sympathy is given to all women who have undergone a rape. The pain and hurt is evident in this young womans voice and she implies that she is not willing to carry the pregnancy to term. We feel her pain and also the additional pain of what she sees as an imposition upon her by the State.
ReplyDeleteWhat we do not know is what her thoughts will be after some reflection upon her situation. After all, the baby she is carrying has genes that are half hers, she may grow to love her fetus as so many women have after finding they are pregnant.
The other side of the story is the government responsibility to protect all innocents. Of course, Roe vrs Wade decided that the infant could be aborted by the mother and there we stand today. A video of this type is the attempt to play on our emotions to insure Roe is never overturned.

ReplyDeleteYou stated my point very clearly, it should be her choice. Pro choice is not out advocating abortions, we are advocating choice.
After your comment I had to go back to see the video to see if I missed something or read something else into it.
ReplyDeleteTo me it is clear that she wants the ability to have an abortion. Otherwise, she need not address Palin if she were going to term with the baby.
My view sees this as an attempt to retain abortion. Yes, she uses the word choice, but it is obvious what that choice is at this time and that is why the video was put out.
Yes, it is obvious from this video that the girl wants the option of an abortion. The opposite of this would be:

Pro-Choice believes in that choice too.
Choice is choice. And I am all about protecting innocents - but not just embryonic innocents. I am also about protecting the innocents who are killed in unnecessary wars - and the innocents who occasionally end up on death row. My problem with Pro-Life is that it often is limited to embryonic life. Most people I know who are pro-life, are not holding candle-lit vigils for death row inmates, nor are they participating in war protests.
ReplyDeleteMy belief about "when" life begins is based on my spirituality. I acknowledge that this is a spiritual belief and I do not feel it is right to make everyone adhere to my spiritual beliefs. I believe in choice.
